In 2000 the second volume of the Oorkondenboek van Noord-Brabant (ONB) was published. In this article starts with comparing ONB II to the first volume, which was published in 1979, indicating in what way the newly published volume provides historians with considerably more information than ONB I did. In addition, some negative aspects of the edition technique used are pointed out. For the main part, the article is a detailed discussion of the selection of the published source material. This volume also contains a major list of addenda. Finally, the consequences for the historical research in North Brabant of the Institute for Dutch History's decision to stop the ONB halfway its completion, are briefly discussed.
