National Steam Train Day
May 24, 2001
National Steam Train day means that all the old
trains are huffing and puffing pulling old-fashoined passenger cars. The
train I chose to take started in Appeldoorn, then to Loenen with 2 intermediate
stops. The train first ran in 1887 hauling logs to the paper mills. It
became a passenger service later. Now it runs in the summer for tourists.
There are several other lines which run in the summer - Medemblik to Hoorn
in the north, Goes in the south west, and the Millionaire Line in
the mountains of Limburg.
