Wendy Matthews' way with phrases - "I'm tied to the tree of life until the dance is over", "no act of love is ever truly lost" and "even if it's a dream, you'll wake to find me here" - draw you into the characters and scenarios in the songs. And what songs! "Beat The Girl" and "Then I walked Away" kick off with anthemic FM radio choruses. Her voice is warm but vulnerable, terrific as she tackles ambitious ballads like "Beloved" and "Soul Debts" and nails 'em. The moods range from funk, mid pop and adult rock with an understated array of instruments and low key spacious production which unifies Ghosts with a sense of integrity and soulfulness.
