When I heard her debut album, I knew it would be on of the best album that I
would buy that year (April 1995). A couple of months later she performed at "Waterpop",
an open air concert at Wateringen near The Hague in the Netherlands. For the few people watching
her that day, this was a great performance. I don't know much about here, but here is what I
know.
For Lou Dalgleish dancing was her life, she just lived for it every week.
She was doing dance shows, teaching youngsters or having lessons her self. Louise was 16 when
she quit her study and started dancing with a circus touring through Mexico. In the song 'Orange
Plane' she describes her feelings when she left for Mexico. Because she felt she wasn't considered
a person but just a moving body, she stopped dancing and began her musical career. Besides
dancing Louise was also a very very good piano player, this combined with her brothers song
writing skills made a formidable team. She worked with Jools Holland, Brian Kennedy,
Paul Young, and Wet Wet Wet. She also played a small role in Steven Spielberg's movie 'Indiana
Jones and the temple of doom'. Lou is in the opening scenes at the nightclub. She is one of
the dancers in the front row on the left of the screen as you look at it.
I just got my copy of Lou's new album "Calmer". I will be working
on puting some more soundclips from this album on my page soon.
If you know anything more about her or if you have a review from a music
magazine please e-mail me at jad @ bart.nl (Alex).

Lou Dalgleish (1995) Music & Words 567913-2 |
Her debut album was released in the Netherlands and Belgium
on April 1995 and was voted album of the week by the Dutch national Radio. The Japanese release
on November 1995 contains an additional track. It is due to release in Germany on March 1996. The
record company is considering releases in the UK and the USA.
Review from "De Haagsche Courant".
The English singer Lou Dalgleish is a special talent. Those who has been to
the Lowlands festival and Brian Ferry, she did the opening act, already know. She released a maxi
single with 4 songs last year. And now her first album makes your heart beat faster from the first
song "Carlie girl". It's not only her tender voice, but also the acoustic guitars, piano,
cello and violin that she uses to make Sorrow and regret
Lou Dalgliesh ran away from home at sixteen to dance at a circus that was
touring through Mexico. She played a small part in Steven Spielbergs movie "Indiana Jones and
the temple of doom" before she decided to make in carreer in music. She can be compared with
singers like Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Sinead O'Conner, K.D. Lang and Jewel.
Brian Kennedy helps out in "Renegade", "Carlie girl" and "Orange
plane". An album for those who like me... and mela.. music.

Calmer (1999) Dig It 567921-2 |
Review from the Dutch newspaper "De Haagsche Courant" by HP (January
29th, 1999);.
Lou Dalgleish - Calmer
Zo is 'Love me to death' -
If I have some more time I will give it a try to translate this to English.
(In 1995 Lou Dalgleish debuted with a marvellous self titled album. .... After that it went quiet. But that was the silence before a new musical storm. This Britisch singer changed instruments on this album but her lyrics still bring touching emotions that makes her work above average. She is a singer-songwriter that should be cherised. In short 'Calmer' is a ....album filled with (love) ballades that's not only carried by Lou's attractive voice but alos by the carefully chosen acoustic instruments. Not using electric instruments ... ......................... The songs ..... 'Love me to death' - with only an acoustic guitar - is a composition with fire and pasion. 'Tipett' has due to Lou's .. piano .. and .... vocals a lot of. ........... - by a tied budget - is clear in 'Dangerous exposure'. But still, a drummachine can have it's charmes.)
And another review (again in Dutch) from Plato Mania Magazine Nr. 118 (February 1998)
Lou Dalgleish - Calmer
Hiervan is in
verdienen. PH
If I have some more time I will also give it a try to translate this to English.
(Lou Dalglesih already made a few albums. Only her debut album is known in The Netherlands. This
Britisch lady did opening acts for Heather Nova and Sophie B. Hawkins. Her music is ..... than
the music of both of these ladies. She has a beautiful voice that perfectly fits the music she
makes. No rock, just .... songs that deserve a bigger audience. PH)
Costello's Indoor Fireworks. Pure kwaliteit. Bert van de Kamp.
'Meaningfull high standard pop.' that's what I said four years ago about Lou Dalgleish self-titled debut
album. Comparions ..... Mitchell, O'Conner, Amos, and yes even Carpenter. A live CD and a mini-album titled
Music appeared on her own LouD-label. It was tme for her second official studio album. Calmer is like the
title says a calm album...........
