Not knowing that in the past three weeks one of her sons had been killed and another injured critically,
Mr.s Jessie Delsman, 65 years old, died yesterday at a nursing home at 816 Warren Ave.Mrs. Delsman, ill many months, was too sick to be told that one son, Arthur Clarence Delsman, 45 years old, died March 28 in a boat explosion near Ketchikan, or that another, Adrian Delsman, 26, lies near death in Providence Hospital because of a traffic accident.
The elder son and three other men died when the cannery tender Alaska Chief exploded. Adrian suffered a fractured skull in an automobile-truck collision.
Thus it will be a family thrice struck by tragedy that will hold rosary services for Mrs. Delsman at 7 o'clock tomorrow night at the Joseph R. Manning & Sons Chapel. Requiem mass will be said at 10 o'clock Friday at St. Anne's Church.
Every day Mrs. Delsman was visited by five other children, Bernard J. Delsman, Mrs. Theodore Baer, Mark Q. Delsman, Theodore J. Delsman and Robert Delsman. She also has a daughter in Los Angeles and one in Texas, but they could not be here.
Mother Delsman knew 'Clare' was in Alaska. She didn't miss him. But Adrian's visits suddeny stopped. 'Where's Adrian ?' she asked. ' Why doesn't he come to see me any more ? Is he mad at me ?'. 'Of course not, Mother', said her sons. ' He's out of twon on business and will be back before you know it.'
So yesterday Mother Delsman passed away, with most of her family near her. And it was all right about Adrian and 'Clare' not being with her. They couldn't be here when they were out of town, could they ?
