Groß Glockner (1995)
Starting place: Kaprun im Pinzgau.
In July/August 1995
we (Walter, Jan) went to the Groß Glockner area, where we
started in Kaprun
(see also a
2nd page ).
An impressive bus/lift/bus tour took us to Heidnische Kirche (Mooserboden Lakes).
Here a surprise was offered: our starting hut (A. Scharf Hs, from which we
had scheduled an easy day trip) had been destroyed
a few years ago. Near the lakes no new location was available that provided
a place to sleep that night. However, the weather was good, so we started
immediately with our 2nd day program.
A Tour of Beauty
Starting at the Mooserboden Lakes the route visited the following points:
- Rudolfs Ht (2311m), by the
Kapruner Törl (2639m): a tour of 9 hours! There was much
snow
to cross, but it was a nice walk. Also the crossing of the
brooks was more unconventional than before.
- Kalser Tauern Hs (1754m), via
Kalser Tauern (2513m): first again an ascent in the snow,
then a long descend to the Dorfer See.
- Kals-Matreier Torl Hs (2207m), via
Kals am Groß Glockner: we stayed a night
in Kals and took a lift to bring us half way, thus creating an easy
afternoon trip. Here we had nice views to the Groß Glockner, Schober,
Lasörling and Venediger Gruppen. [In 1974 I had visited Kals before: see a view
from the Schönleitenspize.]
- Stüdl Ht (2801m: two huts, the old one
in which we slept and a new one that would
be opened later that year), via Luckner Hs (1984m) and Luckner Ht
(2241m): the first part to the Luckner Hs
was by bus, after which still a 900 m ascend followed in the Ködnisch Tal. It was very cold
here. In the evening we had thunder and lightning. The Luckner Hs area was used in a Heidi movie,
in which you can regognize the Groß Glockner, Böses Weible and the view to the
Kals-Matreier Torl.
- Salm Ht (2644m), via Pfortscharte (2825m): the Pfortscharte is a terrible pass - three
steps forward, followed by two steps backward.
The beginning of the route showed a nice view to the Böses Weible.
After the splitting of the routes,
we had problems crossing the brooks because of frozen parts. In the afternoon
we made an additional visit to the
Glorer Ht (2642m)
[In 1974 we had much more snow than this year]. Near the Salm Ht there
is a splitting of the routes that is a nice summary of our walks of today.
- Hofmanns Ht (2438m), via the
Wiener Höhenweg and Glockner Hs: after reaching
the Stockerscharte (2501m) we got an impressive gletscher view over the
Pasterze Kees. A descend of 400m took us
to the Glockner Hs (2143m) on the motorway (!).
From here there was still an old footpath that also reached the end
of the way. Many murmeltiere live here. The final part was an easy way
to the Hofmanns Ht, where only a very view stayed that evening. The
scenery at the Hofmanns Ht makes one silent.
- Oberwalder Ht (2973m): an easy
gletschertour up and down from the Hofmanns Ht.
Again we had splendid gletscher views and views to the
Groß Glockner.
Above the Oberwalder Ht we also
reached the 3000m. In the afternoon we descended and returned again
to Kaprun by bus over the Glockner Hochalpenstraße: also a very
nice tour.
- Krefelder Ht (2290m): reached by bus and lift, after a visit by
lift to the Kitzsteinhorn (Kapruns summer ski resort: 3023m). We took the hut as starting
point to walk the Enzigerweg to Wh Glocknerblick (1675m). The complete Pinzgau we could see, with
below us: Kaprun, Bruck am Groß Glockner, Zell am See.
The Mooserboden Lakes with Kitzsteinhorn.
