Gosau Kamm and Dachstein (1979)
Starting place: Bad Goisern am Halstätter See.
In 1979 we went to the Dachstein area in Salzkammergut. We arrived by train
via Linz in Bad Goisern where we took the bus to the Gosau Kamm.
We had been warned in advance that because of the gap in the northern boundary
of the Alps near Salzburg, rainy weather maintained long here. Indeed
we have endured a very wet holiday: only two days out of 18 were dry. Due to
these weather conditions we were not able to visit the Guttenberg Hs
(2137m) and to make the crossing to the north [in 1971 I already had made
the walk from Ramsau via the Guttenberg Hs,
Gruber Scharte (2353m), Edelgrieß
Höhe (2305m) to the Austria Ht (1630m)].
Our Route
We started at the west of the Gosau Kamm and first followed the south side
of the Dachstein. In Ramsau we took a bus to Schladming, where a train brought
as to Obertraun at the north of the Dachstein. Here we continued our tour.
- Gablonzer Ht (1468m), by bus and lift.
- Theodor Körner Ht (1468m), by the Austriaweg.
- Hofpürgl Ht (1703m), just south of the Bischofsmütze, and by continuing the
Austriaweg.
- Dachsteinsüdwand Ht (1871m), by the Linzerweg, Sulzenhals (1821m) and
Pernerweg. This hut I had visited before. In the evening we had thunder and lightning.
- Austria Ht (1630m), followed by a descend (see above) in order to
start again at the north side of the Dachstein. Finally we reached the
Schilcher Hs (Gjaid Alm; 1739m).
- Wiesberg Hs (1873m), where it was wet and cold.
- Simony Ht (2203m), by the Franz Josef Reitweg. At the hut we
had a splendid view to the lakes at the north of the
Dachstein. One of the spots in the Alps you always remember.
- Adamek Ht (2196m), reached via the Hohe Trog (2354m) and the
Hohe Wand Scharte (2197m). Here we found many fossils.
From the Adamek Ht we descended and stayed for a few days
in Hallstatt.
