Dutch 2 meter session on 25/4/90.

At the 2004 Abattoir Blues tour, The Gospel Singers (without Nick Cave) sometimes
sang New Morning as the very last song of the evening.

Comments: First released as New Day. It is also the title
of a Bob Dylan album. Erik Arendonk noted that the line "There'll be no sadness, no sorrow"
may have been borrowed from "Peace In The Valley", which Johnny Cash sings on
the Folsom Prison CD. In an interview, Nick says "New Morning arose out of the song
Amazing Grace".

returned in all Bad Seeds shows from 2003 to 2009, and at solo quartet shows in 2006-2007.
About 425 performances in total.

Live performance history: Since its debut
it has been played on almost _ALL_ live concerts, including the solo quartet shows (that is in total about
about 670 times). The first part of the
2008 Dig, Lazarus Dig!!! tour was an exception, but the mistake would soon be corrected.
Very often it was either the opening song, or the
closing song of the regular set. Throughout the years, the song has been played
in acoustic sessions and solo concerts numerous times, including
a special version from US TV (Night Music 28/1/90), and a spoken word version
(London, Poetry Olympics, 7/7/96).

- Melbourne artist New Waver does "The Office Seat", (variation on

titled "Sitz Der Gnade", on the 1996 album "Live Im Planetarium, Jena".
In 1997 this was released on EP and CDsingle.
- Stromkern has covered "The Mercy Seat" on the CD "Flicker Like A Candle",
which also contains a remix of this song by Attrition, released in 1997
